I recently realized that, while I am the Defender of Worlds, I've been a bit fixated on one world of late.
By this time, the small boys had made their escape. The old man was quite winded, but once he caught his breath he expressed his relief at my arrival. I offered to fly him over to his friends, but he said he wanted take the long way round for some reason. I later found out he took credit for the entire thing and completely left me out of the story! He made up some sort of nonsense about battling the creature for days, dying, then being resurrected and hanging out with some eagles. Guess he took the long way so he could come up with a story that made him out to be the hero. What a bunch of nonsense - and not even a very good story to boot. Oh well - sometimes being the defender of worlds is a thankless job.
It seemed high time to see how the rest of the universe was doing. So, I grabbed my cape and helmet, then set a course for Middle Earth.
When I first arrived, everything seemed calm enough. I've always liked the dwarves (and thought I might be able to pick up a nice souvenir war axe for Brian), so I decided to check out the Mines of Moria. While I didn't find the dwarves I was looking for, I DID find an old man battling a large fiery beast. I quickly assessed the situation and determined the fiery beast to be the enemy and the old man to be the protector of several small boys. So, I transformed myself to match his size and blasted him with my eye lasers. The beast was no match for me (I am the defender of worlds, after all) and was quickly subdued.
